Women, Media and Change (WOMEC) is a Non Governmental Organisation established in 1994 and duly registered under the laws of the Republic of Ghana in 2000.


WOMEC recognises that women’s issues are multi-dimensional and are influenced by factors such as education, information and technology, health, environment, housing, land rights and human rights. 


WOMEC is committed to promoting visibility for women and girls in the public sphere through the effective use of the media. WOMEC provides the platform for advocacy for gender balance and the empowerment of women. 

WOMEC's Strategy

Our Mission

  • Advocate for the rights of women and girls.
  • Build the capacity of media personnel to effectively report on the issues of gender, women and girls.
  • Build the capacity of women and girls to effectively use the media to amplify their voices.
  • Conduct research on media needs of women and girls in Ghana.
  • Train female journalists, women and girls in ICT to sharpen their skills for leadership.
  • Publish appropriate publications on gender, women and girls.

To bridge the gap between rhetoric and action in addressing issues on gender and empowering women to gain public voice and visibility.
